We have all been through the experience of high school; the ups and downs, the pressure to fit into certain groups, the idealistic idea of how you should look or behave. We all have had friends, foes and people that we don’t notice, everyone trying to be someone special in the high school reputation system. Did something like this ever happen to you? What happens when this pressure goes out of control? In the movie Easy A, with actress Emma Stone, this topic of appearances in high school is highly debated through the experience of Olive Penderghast, a nice girl with a reputation that fell down as soon as the rumours about her sexual life spread out in school. A bit tricky, isn’t it? Keep reading to know a little more about this refreshing movie.
This comedy tells us the story of Olive, a common student who went unnoticed by everyone in high school until the day that she lies to her best friend about having lost her virginity. The problem comes when this conversation is overheard by Marianne Bryant, a very traditional Christian, who kindly decides to turn Olive into her religious group project, harassing Olive by saying that she is an easy girl, the devil and a bad person, among other insults. These rumours started because Olive wanted to help a boy to be popular by acting out as if they’d had sex at a public party, which never actually happened. What would you do in a situation like this? What Olive did was simple: she took the rumours and made them part of her new self, dressing up in a new fashion, making a business out of this situation. Do you want to know what happens next? Find out by watching this great movie.
All in all, we must not forget that this is a comedy for moments when you need to relax, this is the perfect movie to watch with friends on a Friday afternoon, don’t you think? This movie mixes rumours, strange situations, some bullying and teenager hormones to create an excellent comedy that brings out the best of the actress. Did this article remind you a bit of your own school days? If so, it is a must for you to watch this movie. Go to your nearest cinema and say this was recommended for you by Critical Moviegoers. Enjoy the show!
