Dear Critical Moviegoers writers,
I am Dr. Oliver Wood, I work in a hospital as the Head of the Department of Genetics. As passionate as I am for genetics, I am passionate about watching excellent movies in my spare time. That is why I have read your blog and I think it is very interesting, but I am concerned with the fact that you are leaving medical movies aside.
According to what I have read until now, your points of view include politics, education and human behaviour, among other topics. I think that, as a doctor, reader and patient, it would be amusing if you take into consideration medical issues that are discussed in movies, such as euthanasia, ethics, adoption, organ donation and so on.
These points are very important topics to be discussed as much as possible, due to the fact that, in some cases, the information is not well developed by the public opinion. In more than one opportunity, patients arrive to my surgery without knowing much about the latest medical advancements. This is why I think that these topics should be discussed using all the tools we have at hand, in this case, through movies.
I expect that you, as writers and students, will take my points into consideration next time you decide on what movie to write about. It is very important that people be informed about health and difficult topics to discuss, namely organ donation or genetic improvements. When in doubt, do not hesitate to contact me, I will be here to help you.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Oliver Wood
